Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips optional

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x9-inch baking pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, melt the butter in the microwave or over a double boiler until just melted (don’t let it bubble).
  3. Add sugar to the melted butter and whisk vigorously until combined and glossy.
  4. One by one, add the eggs and vanilla extract, whisking until the mixture is smooth and somewhat fluffy.
  5. Sift in the cocoa powder, flour, and salt, and gently fold until just combined — don’t overmix!
  6. If desired, stir in the chocolate chips for an extra molten surprise when you bite into the brownies.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, smoothing it out evenly with a spatula.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out with a few moist crumbs, not wet batter.
  9. Let the brownies cool in the pan before slicing into squares and serving.

Notes

Store brownies in an airtight container to keep them fresh for up to 5 days. They can be warmed in the microwave for a few seconds for that freshly-baked taste.
