Delightful Peppermint Swirl Cookies for Every Occasion

Peppermint Swirl Cookies made approachable with clear cues, pantry staples, and flexible swaps.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp pure peppermint extract
  • 1/2 cup crushed peppermint candies
  • Red food coloring optional

Method
 

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, followed by the peppermint extract and the food coloring.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
  6. Divide the dough in half and mix in the crushed peppermint candies to one half.
  7. Add red food coloring to the other half of the dough if using.
  8. Scoop tablespoons of each dough and create small balls side by side on a baking sheet.
  9. Use a toothpick or skewer to swirl the two doughs together.
  10. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  11. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
